About this Site

I began my research of my wife's maiden surname of Albray during 2002. It was my first serious attempt to trace a family line, and I was soon amazed to see how much information is readily available on the internet. During 2001, we went to the Lake District in Northwest England for a holiday, and had gone on a day trip to Hartlepool in Northeast England. While there, my wife's uncle, Harry went in to the museum where the ship HMS Trincomalee is stored. While later searching on the 1881 British census, I discovered that Harry's grandfather Henry Albray had been leading seaman on that very ship exactly 120 years earlier! Harry knew that there were naval links in the family, but he didn't know this little gem! Understandably, his brief visit to the ship late that afternoon became far more special to him. As I located other members of his family, Harry became ever more interested in his own genealogy. I was determined to get him back to Hartlepool to see the ship again, but, very sadly, he died in February 2004.

I dedicate this website to Harry, and remember with great fondness the many happy hours we spent together, as he shared with me what he knew of his family, and his many memories from years gone by.

My wife's direct line through the family is indicated by the names of her father, grandfather, and so on being shown in italics.

If you have any information relating to any of the family lines on this website, and are willing to share it, or if you are aware of any errors that need correcting, then please contact me by using the E-Mail Me link on the home page with whatever details you have. Thank you.
